.: BILLY TALBOT :.
How would you feel if one day you meet one of your musical heroes and after a few hours you're playing music with him?
It sounds like a dream, but that's what happened to me, when Stefano Frollano, Marco Martella, Mauro Coscia and I met
Billy Talbot during his days off in Roma during the Neil Young & Crazy Horse 1987 European tour.
Our genuine enthusiasm captured his attention and on a sweet spring night we found ourselves singing with him
in one of the most spectacular squares of Roma: Piazza Navona. From then on, I have had several chances to play
and sing with Billy and it has always been a thrilling privilege.
Billy started his musical career singing
with Danny & the Memories, who evolved into the Psyrcle (the Psychedelic Circle) and eventually the Rockets.
When Neil Young spotted them playing at the Whisky A-Go-Go in Hollywood, he asked Billy, drummer Ralph Molina and guitarist
(the late) Danny Whitten to join him. That was in late 1968, and after all these years, the lads are still playing together!
Everybody knows Billy is the bass player in Crazy Horse, but rather fewer know of his prolific songwriting.
Billy has written many beautiful songs, some of which appeared on Crazy Horse albums and other ones
on the Billy Talbot Band album
released by Sanctuary Records in late 2004,
although many of what I think are his best tunes have yet to be released.
